Obfuscation-index: how many facts strategically omitted in a news article

Does a news article

  • successfully implant a distorted impression in the reader’s mind1?
  • by hiding counter-narrative facts2?
  • thus transmit a desired, politically correct (PC) narrative?3

Our obfuscation index measures the success of one single news-cast in obfuscating counter-narrative facts and maintaining the PC narrative .

Our Brainwashing index measures the long term success in maintaining factually false, but politically correct beliefs.

We propose4 the [PC] obfuscation index5  to measure the extent to which media reporting covers up counter-narrative “racist” facts6. Does it distract the reader’s mind from un-PC “racist” or “sexist” facts7(that are relevant to the issue in discussion) and thus contribute to the Brainwashing index?

This quantitative measure8 of disinformation is value-free:

  • science minded free speech advocates find the obfuscation attempt disturbing: the omission of relevant true information with intent(?9) to deceive readers
  • the PC media rejoice about obfuscation result, measurable beliefs induced by successfully implanting misinformation in the reader’s mind,

  • A news article successfully distracts from all important facts that contradict the PC (politically correct) narrative? 100% Obfuscation!
  • The obfuscation index is usually well above zero, because obfuscating race of minority criminals and other “minority” failures is mandatory, by media ethics code10 and by virtue of the PC Gag Order .


    Our sample BBC article below successfully prevents the reader from knowing the following relevant, clearly uncontestable, facts

    1. Ahmaud Arbery was clearly the attacker. Though Arbery was pursued, in an attempted citizen arrest, it was Arbery who actively closed the last 20 meters/yards and attacked with punches and by grabbing the gun.
    2. Ahmaud Arbery was a felon with serious prior criminal records.
    3. There are likely but less certainly proved facts11 and the false beliefs due to long term media brainwashing12

    Obfuscation’s cover-up can be determined in 2 different short term ways, and its long term misinformation effect

    1. Obfuscation intent: by simple analysis of the text, its objective omission of truthful and full information and resulting objective cover-up
    2. Obfuscation result in reader’s mind:
      1. by inquiring the readers for both lack of knowledge and
      2. strength of counter-factual beliefs
        1. ignorance of facts with an open and curious mind is quite different from
        2. a righteous conviction that Ahmaud Arbery has no felony record and was hunted down and for sure did not attack anyone
    3. Long term obfuscation effects and definite brainwashing into deeply held false beliefs through repeated obfuscation and deception: long term media brainwashing and the deeply held counterfactual beliefs

    Standard social science questionnaires can test the depth of the readers’ knowledge of these facts. The reader might be simply ignorant of facts, or actually utterly repudiate such facts as totally wrong, and as racist.


    The [PC] cover-up index13 measures the extent to which media reporting obfuscates counter-narrative “racist” facts

    Obfuscation index can be for one individual reader, or an average for a group of readers.

    • 100% obfuscation or 100 cover-up means:
      media manages to perfectly mislead the reader and make her believe in the narrative
    • 0% obfuscation index means:
      readers are fully aware of all issues

    The questions are selected to target politically incorrect facts that the media would rather not tell you.

    The PC brainwashing-index measures the long term success of media mis-information.


    Summary – Repeating

    Does a media article induce false beliefs?  Using standard social science questionnaires, the amount of misunderstanding and deception can be easily quantified.

    Does the reader’s mental image of an event conform to the “narrative”, even if the facts are counter-narrative?

    Do the media successfully implant a “narrative”-conforming mental image into the reader’s mind? Or is the reader aware of relevant counter-narrative facts that Left like to hide (in order to avoid “racism” and “prejudice”)

    We can quantitatively measure the success of media indoctrination, the percentage if misinformation and misunderstanding of counter-narrative facts.

    We can quantitatively decide if the media deserve to be called “lying media”.

    Reading ONE news story, what percentage of media consumers have an awareness of #RacistFacts that #LyingMedia brazenly omit and distort? What percentage of the readers have a mental image of the described event, that is in clear disagreement with provable14 and highly relevant facts? Psychology’s scientific methodology can clarify this, with simple use of paper and pencil questionnaires15.

     

    Example research:

    Likert scales16 are indicated.

    Randomly assign people to two groups:

      1. Experimental group 1, read a typical deceptive media news article like ‘They Lynched Him’: Ahmaud Arbery’s Father on the Killing of His Son [Amren]
      2. Control group 2 is presented with full factual video information like the one presented in “They Lynched Ahmaud Arbery: MSM omissions, distractions, lies …

     

    The reader subjects must be fairly naïve regarding the case17.

     

    On a scale from –5 (totally disagree) to +5 (totally agree)18 answer the following questions

    Do media make readers inform readers of factual truth23? Or do media fill the reader’s brain with misleading narrative? The scientific method24 can decisively answer this.

    “Media transmit correct factual information to the readers’25 brain?”

    This null hypothesis can be tested using the scientific method for social sciences.

    Alternatively, we can quantitatively measure readers’ comprehension:

      • % of readers misunderstood
      • % of readers correct understanding

    Whenever media do not explicitly blatantly lie

    • they claim to just be “accidentally” omitting “irrelevant” facts
    • Sometimes media admit to omitting racist facts in obedience of anti-racist media gag orders 26

Accuracy of media information:
media consumption imparts what  %_correct or %_incorrect understanding of #RacistFacts

    • Subjects read a MSM text27
  • Find out subjects’ understanding of what has happened.
    1. Test their understanding with multiple choice test, using drawings, videos, or text choices28

            the true facts about what really happened” can be rejected with 99.999999999 %
            certainty
          2. Rather we can show effect sizes of deception in the range of 20 to

      • Carefully test how do subjects fill in the gaps, the omissions?
        1. Can they imagine that there was violent resistance to arrest,
        2. violence against a cop,
        3. a dangerous felony high speed chase,
        4. omitted sections of the video,
        5. prior commission of a felony as cause for arrest,
        6. prior violent crime convictions
      • Proper test design must be followed, as outlined in social science courses on scientific method and test design.
        1. Of course, it is better if we can find some hermits or people from down-under isolated from all related news,
        2. It is hard to find subjects that have no knowledge of the Rodney King beating, George Floyd death, or Ahmaud Arbery shooting.
        3. BUT actually, only those who heard some #RacistFacts and were exposed to #TrueSpeech must be eliminated.
        4. Those who were only exposed to MSM propaganda will just re-read what they read before

      • After exposure to a media article or video, we can test if the subjects’ understanding coincides with factual truth

    Glynn County School police said at the time that an officer noticed a gun in Arbery’s waistband, and he ran when the officer attempted to stop him. Officers put the campus in a lockdown mode during the foot chase.

    In the course of the chase, one school resource officer fell and fractured his hand.
